AnimationprintversieThis course is meant for people who want to learn how animation really works: how to create “life” from a series of static images. We will watch other animations and discuss how they were made. You will learn some basic 2D animation techniques and apply them.
During the course you will also learn the terminology of the medium. Likewise, we will explore some non-digital 3D techniques, like stop-motion and pixilation, and some 2D-techniques like paper cut-out and rotoscoping.
You will learn to apply traditional 2D animation techniques (pen-and-paper animation) in digital surroundings. First, we will do short and simple assignments with a length of only a few images (frames), up until a few seconds. Then we shall focus more on using the techniques you have obtained to bring human figures to life. At the end of the course, the whole group will make an “animation jam”: a collaborative animation.
You will need some basic drawing skills. Experience using a Mac, Adobe Flash or similar software is useful but not essential.
During the course, we will use the iMacs and digital tablets at CREA. Make sure to bring something to store your work, like a USB or external drive, compatible with an iMac. You are allowed to use your own laptop, but you will be responsible for acquiring the software.
